Athlone Town -v- UCD

UCD will have the chance to seal the First Division Title against Athlone on Friday evening. ( kick off 7.45pm). A win for UCD along with dropped points for Shelbourne will hand the title to the Students.

Athlone Town will look to give fans a win in their last home game of the season and keep the title race going until the final week of the season. They will also look to put last week’s disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Monaghan United behind them.

Mark Salmon is suspended due to yellow cards received. Mick Byrne, Austin Skelly, Ciaran Reilly, Gary Murphy and Robbie Hamm are all definitely unavailable for selection through injury. Noel McGee, Kevin Horan and Tom O’Halloran are all considered doubtful for the game.

UCD come into the game in blistering form, after collecting 19 points from a possible 21 on offer from their last seven league matches. UCD currently hold a four point gap over Shelbourne, so if Longford cause an upset against Shelbourne, UCD will be crowned champions if they overcome Athlone. The goals have also been flying in, with 21 goals in their last seven games, including 5-0 wins against Finn Harps and Kildare County.

Brian Shortall will miss the rest of the regular season through suspension, following dismissal in Tolka Park at the start of the month. Top scorer Ciarán Kilduff is also out through suspension, having picked up four yellow cards.

Extratime.ie Prediction: UCD are in unstoppable form at the moment, and Athlone won’t have enough to stop them. 3-0 win for UCD.
