Cork City confirm John Cotter departure from the club
City boss Colin Healy confirmed that his assistant, John Cotter, will be leaving the club at the end of the month. Cotter is set to take up a new role with the FAI.
Cotter originally joined Cork City in 2013 to work as an assistant to John Caulfield. He was an important part of the club’s successes from 2014-2017, which included winning the FAI Cup in 2016 and winning a league and cup double in 2017. Cotter temporarily took charge of the team in 2019 when John Caulfield left the club.
Cotter left the club in August 2019 and he returned fourteen months later to work under Colin Healy.
In June 2020, Cotter completed the UEFA Pro-License course alongside a host of former Irish internationals such as Damien Duff, Robbie Keane, and Andy Reid.
“Cotts has taken up a new role within the FAI, so he’ll be leaving within the next two weeks,” Healy said, “We will probably look at bringing someone in to replace him, but for the moment, we’re focused on Friday’s match against Treaty.
“What John has done for the club has been magnificent. As a coach and as a friend, he’s been brilliant. He has the respect of every player in the dressing room. We’re sad to see him go – he’s an excellent coach with a fantastic attitude and work ethic. He’s moving on to a different job, and we wish him the best with it.”
City are third from bottom in the League of Ireland First Division having won one game so far this season.
