Bayly - Focus is back on promotion

Sporting Fingal midfielder Robert Bayly was keen to stress that after the cup win over Bray, the focus in the Fingal camp will switch immediately back to promotion from Division 1: “Now we're in the final we have to concentrate on the league, try to get promoted. The league is the most important thing after tonight. We'll be concentrating on next week's match against Mervue.”

Asked whether Fingal are confident in the run-up to their FAI Ford Cup final clash against Sligo Rovers next month, Bayly had this to say: “We fancy our chances against anybody on our day. If we were to play like we did today and like we did against Rovers then we'll be up there, winning the battles. I saw the game against Waterford there the other night, they [Sligo] are very decent. It should be a good game.”

“We've no nerves really. They're a good bunch of lads, everybody works for each other. We've got to keep on going like that, keep gelling together.”

On Sunday's semi-final opponents Bray Wanderers, Bayly stated that Fingal's second half performance was central to their success: “When you come out at half time the next goal is vital. They came out at half time and got their goal and were pressing us down for a few minutes. I'm just happy to get the goal and get the win.”

“We thought it was going to be a lot harder [against Bray], especially with the balls they play. They look to hit their front man early. But we were the ones that broke them down.”

Bayly said that his sublime volley to score Fingal's fourth goal was the best goal of his career “so far...hopefully I'll score a few more though.”

The ex-Leeds midfielder made the move to Fingal for the start of this season and said that his experience of the First Division has been “all helter skelter really. I don't get as much time on the ball but I don't mind that because I like a bit of battling.”

“They [Fingal] had the players already before I signed. I saw the players they were bringing in and had a look around the training ground. I trained for a week and knew I'd be staying here.”
