Finn Harps add striker Tunde Owolabi to their squad for the new season
Finn Harps have added another striker to their squad for the 2021 season with Tunde Owolabi joining the Donegal outfit from Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academical.
The 24-year-old player, who was born in Antwerp but has Nigerian citizenship, had a very successful 2019/20 season with FC United of Manchester in the Northern Premier League where he scored 34 goals in 41 appearances.
However, he was unable to sustain that level of performance during his stint with Academical last season and was released by them in February 2021.
On what the fans can expect, the attacker is keen to do whatever he can to help the team succeed.
‘’I like to score goals and hopefully I can get back to the level I was at last year,” said Owolabi. “I work hard, I’m fast, I like to run in behind and stretch the play to create space for my teammates. It’s about trying to help the team win games and seeing what we can do this season’’
Harps boss Ollie Horgan said ‘’Tunde is a great lad. He gives us another option at the top end of the pitch which is good. He comes with a bit of experience at a good level of football so hopefully he settles in well with us.’’
Owolabi will be competing with Ryan Shanley, Karl O’Sullivan and Jamie Browne for a position in the Harps starting XI and may well get a chance to impress Horgan if he gets minutes on the pitch in their next home friendly against Cork City on Saturday 13 March.
Harps recorded a good 3-1 away win over Athlone Town in a friendly last Saturday and will be hoping to continue their good form against City before facing Bohemians in their opening Premier Division fixture of the new season at Finn Park on Saturday 20 March (K.O. 18.00).
