Limerick 37 F.C decide to revert to Limerick F.C.
Last Saturday night saw Jack McCarthy, the owner of Limerick 37, attend his first League game of the season as Limerick produced a encouraging 2-2 draw against Athlone in Lissywoollen, Athlone.
The remainder of the weekend saw Jack McCarthy meet with the Limerick 37 board over a possible name change. At the launch of Limerick’s new Umbro gear and jersey sponsorship today, McCarthy confirmed, to the media that Limerick 37 will now be rebranding themselves as Limerick FC in time for the start of next season.
This change will be welcomed by the majority of Limerick supporters who see the decision to drop the 37 from the clubs name as an intelligent marketing idea. This name change will take place from the beginning of the 2009 season.
In other Limerick news, the FAI and Jack McCarthy have both announced that new Irish manager, Giovanni Trapatoni, is to attend a fund raising dinner for the club in October. The date and location are yet to be confirmed.
