Charlie Smith re-signs with Wexford for 2021
Attacking midfielder Charlie Smith has re-signed with Wexford ahead of the 2021 season beginning at the end of March.
The 20 year old moved to Wexford from UCD at the start of the 2020 campaign but the season turned out to be a disappointing one as the club finished bottom of the First Division table.
The Dubliner spoke to Wexford's media team not long after penning his new deal.
"I'm happy to be back. Last season unfortunately didn't go as planned, we started well but found it hard to find our form again after the Covid break. I myself want to improve my performances from last season, I have been training hard during the off season so I want to contribute more to the team this year. I want to add more goals and assists to my game."
Wexford begin their pre-season campaign with a trip to Drogheda later today and with a number of new additions to the side, Smith is feeling confident heading into the season.
"We've added a lot of quality to the squad with the likes of Paul Fox and Jack Connolly joining us. To improve on last season though we need to show better quality going forward and stop making silly mistakes that lead to us conceding, hopefully we can push for a play off place this year."
While Shamrock Rovers II had been awarded a licence, the FAI made the decision to keep with their planned ten team second flight with Treaty United filling the ‘To Be Confirmed’ spot on the league fixtures that were announced recently https://t.co/ro9WWBvf8wpic.twitter.com/GxHyXlq0FT
