Cork City resolve wages issue - Statement

Cork City FC have this afternoon released the following lengthy statement, stating that all monies owed to players have been paid as of today, paving the way for the club's crucial Premier Division contest way to Shamrock Rovers to go ahead tonight. The statement in full reads:
"Cork City Football Club wish to confirm that all players have been paid up to date, as of today, October 20th. While there was a brief delay in the payment of wages due to some players, the club has remained in constant contact with the relevant bodies, along with players and management.
It has been a long and difficult year for Cork City Football Club. While the club emerged successfully from the Examinership process, we have had to face a number of challenges and have dealt with each of these issues as they have arisen.
Like a number of other clubs in the League of Ireland, Cork City Football Club is not sustaining itself financially and has required the investment of significant private funds. The current economic climate has led to a significant drop in advertising and ancillary revenues, while credit has not been as readily available from the business or financial communities as would be hoped.
The fact that Cork City FC has such a large and passionate support has led to intense coverage of the club’s difficulties. We fully understand and appreciate the concerns being expressed by our loyal supporters about the future of the club, but we wish to reiterate that we are committed to putting in place the foundations and structures for a sustainable future. We are committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure a prosperous future for Cork City Football Club.
Despite the difficulties we have encountered, Cork City FC has honoured all players’ contracts and has paid all backpay to all of our players resulting from the club entering Examinership under its previous owners.
The club has not, at any point, requested that players take pay-cuts.
While it is regrettable that there have been occasions where players have not been paid on time, paying the players the terms agreed in their contracts remains the priority of Cork City Football Club, and all players are now paid up to date.
We acknowledge the continued support of our sponsors and supporters through these difficult times and this is greatly appreciated by all at the club. With only a matter of weeks to go in the season, Cork City have an excellent chance of qualifying for Europe and we are confident of achieving this and of a successful future for the football club."
