St Patrick's Athletic swoop in for ex-Dundalk winger John Mountney

St Patrick’s Athletic have confirmed the signing of winger John Mountney from Dundalk for the 2021 season.

The versatile winger moves to Richmond Park and will play under former teammate Stephen O’Donnell.

The 27-year-old joins the Saints after winning five League of Ireland titles, three FAI Cups, and three League Cups during nine trophy laden years at Oriel Park.

Mountney has a wealth of European experience under his belt and was a prominent figure in Dundalk’s Europa League group stage campaigns in 2016 and 2020.

The Mayo man is looking forward to linking up with O’Donnell and enjoying a fresh start at Richmond Park in 2021.

“Since Stephen made the contact and explained to me what they’re doing here it excited me straight away,” he told the club’s media team.

“Watching a lot of the games Pat’s played last year and seeing the brand of football played excited me, as well as seeing what is being built here.”
