Ireland international Niamh Farrelly departs double-winners Peamount United for pro deal with Glasgow City
Republic of Ireland international Niamh Farrelly has become the first of Peamount United’s double-winning side to sign a professional deal abroad as she links up with Glasgow City.
The Scottish club, who beat the Peas in a penalty shoot-out when they met in the Champions League in October, have signed the Dubliner on a three-year deal.
Farrelly is a midfielder by trade but has deputised at centre-half this season in the absence of captain Louise Corrigan, who tore her ACL in pre-season.
The 21-year-old, who made her senior debut for the Peas in 2015, was part of a side that won the league and FAI Cup double for the first time in the club’s history.
Her performances caught the eye of international boss Vera Pauw, who brought her into the squad for recent Euro qualifiers against Greece, Ukraine and Germany.
She was previously capped twice under previous manager Colin Bell and interim boss Tom O’Connor, in friendlies against Belgium and the United States.
"I am delighted to sign my first professional contract at Glasgow City, a very successful team over the years,” Farrelly told the club’s official website.
“I can’t wait to learn from Scott [Booth, Glasgow City manager] and all the girls and help the team as much as I can.”
Booth added: "We are all excited about bringing Niamh to the club. She is a fantastic player who is versatile, athletic and totally focused.
“She is capped for her country and still young enough to continue her development at Glasgow City."
Farrelly will be eligible to appear for the Clyde-based side from January 2nd and will wear the number 17.
