US and UK backed Dublin County FC approved to apply for a First Division license along with Treaty United
Both Dublin County FC and Treaty United have been informed that they are able to apply for a First Division license ahead of the 2021 season.
Dublin County FC confirmed that they have been invited to apply for a League of Ireland license after consultations with the FAI.
The club, initially named as Irish Sea FC, said in a statement today: “Irish Sea FC LTD trading as Dublin County FC is very pleased to announce that we have been invited to apply for a League of Ireland License.
“Our Board would like to thank the FAI and LOI for this great opportunity and all the time, effort and work they put into this process.”
Dennis Lukens, a UEFA Pro License holder, has been fronting the proposal. It is believed that Lukens attempted to takeover First Division earlier this year, but that deal fell through.
Also learning of their approval to apply for a League of Ireland license is Treaty United.
In a statement today, Treaty said: “Following the evaluation from the League of Ireland Expression of Interest Panel, the club have been invited to enter into the licencing process for 2021.”
The statement continued: “Treaty United look forward to the next step in the process and we would like to thank the FAI for the opportunity to see a return of men’s senior soccer in the Mid-West region.”
