Stéphanie Frappart to become first woman to referee a men's Champions League game
Stéphanie Frappart will become the first woman to referee a men’s Champions League game when she takes charge of Juventus’ clash with Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday night.
The French official is generally recognised as the top official in women’s football and refereed the 2019 World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands last year.
She became the first female official to referee a major UEFA men’s game when she took charge of Super Cup clash between Liverpool and Chelsea in Istanbul last July.
Irish assistant referee Michelle O’Neill was among the refereeing team on the night as Liverpool ran out 5-4 winners following penalties.
Frappart took charge of her first Europa League game in October when she oversaw Leicester City and Zorya Luhansk in England but tonight’s game is her first Champions League outing.
