Galway United's Seamus Conneely has become the latest League of Ireland prodigee to earn international recognition by being called into Don Givens squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifying double header against Georgia and Switzerland.

The games take place in Tallaght and Waterford next month and Conneely follows in former team-mate Jay O'Shea's footsteps in achieving acknowledgement for his consistent performances for the western club. The versatile Connemarra native, who broke into the first team last season, has only missed one League fixture for Ian Foster's side, scoring two crucial goals along the way, and his manager outlined Conneely's importance to the Galway cause recently.

"Whether he’s right back, whether he’s centre half or holding midfield, he’s a fantastic pro", Foster stated. "He’s a pleasure to work with and I know what I’m going to get from him every week. The more players I have like that the better."

Scouts have reportedly been in Galway to run the rule over Conneely in recent months, and the 21-year-old could be set for a cross-channel move soon rather than later if his good form continues.
