Sporting Fingal’s Conan Byrne On...

...Scoring 21 goals so far this season

Yeah 21 now... I don’t really mind that though, picking up the three points every week is what’s important. We’ve a tough game in Monaghan next week and then another one against Shels, we have to do our thing on the pitch.

...First Division glory

Well we’ve always thought about it.I think that might be what happened to us at the start of the season, maybe we thought it might be a walk in the park in this division but it just goes to show that it’s not like that here. We just have to grind it out every week; to work hard in training and on the pitch and not think about glory in the league or cup.

...the unexpected loss to Wexford Youths last week

We were absolutely terrible on Monday, it was probably the worst performance I’ve seen in a Sporting Fingal jersey from numbers 1 to 11. We sorted ourselves out, we had a bit of a team meeting amongst the players, asked ourselves what the story was and told ourselves that it just wasn’t acceptable, especially when we could have gone top of the league and it would have been great for the club and psychologically. We’ll just have to keep chipping away now, keep getting the results.

...promotion rivals Waterford United

Waterford, I’ve always said, are the dark horses in the league. They’re the most dogged team in the league, you’re never going to score 2 or 3 against them. When they have lost it’s only been by a goal and they score too. Waterford are a very good side and very hard to beat. They’ll get points and they’re going to be laughing now that they see we lost on Monday. For the neutral it’s great but it’s not so great for us.

...the performance in the 4-1 win last Friday against Finn Harps.

I think it was [a bit lacklustre]. Even at half time we were comfortable at 2-0. We should have held on to the ball and not tried to pass it through so much. We were a bit dissapointed to be honest.
