Former Ireland underage international Sean Scannell joins Grimsby
Grimsby Town have signed former Republic of Ireland underage international Sean Scannell.
The 29-year-old joins Ian Holloway at Blundell Park after being released by Blackpool back in June.
Scannell, who was highly thought of as a youngster plied his trade at Crystal Palace where he played for nine years before going onto spend time at Huddersfield, Bradford and most recently Blackpool.
The winger also represented the Republic of Ireland all of the way up to under 21 level.
Speaking after agreeing terms with Grimsby, Scannell told iFollow Mariners about the influence that Holloway had on the deal.
“I’ve known Ollie (Ian Holloway) for a few years now and to play for a manager like Ollie is all that I’ve wanted for. As soon as I spoke to him I wanted to come straight away.”
Grimsby will kick-off their Sky Bet League Two campaign when they travel to Banks’s Stadium to take on Walsall on Saturday, September 12th.
