Scottish Premiership Round-Up: Hibs keep up the pressure on Rangers after late winner
Rangers remain top of the Scottish Premiership with 13 points secured from five games after their 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock.
New signing Kemar Roofe scored his first goal for the club shortly after the start of the second half, with Ryan Kent extending the lead with less than 15 minutes remaining.
Hibernian needed a late penalty to secure all three points away to St. Johnstone and to keep up the pressure on Rangers.
Stevie Mallan slotted home a penalty for the visitors after Liam Gordon's foul on Ryan Porteous in added time.
The Saints felt hard done by with a first-half goal wrongly disallowed for offside.
St Johnstone Manager Callum Davidson remarked: “It certainly looked onside, but you’ve just got to take it and get on with it.”
Hibs only trail Rangers by goal difference.
A draw away to St Mirren was enough for Ross County to keep them in third place while Celtic moved up to fourth after a late winner at Dundee United.
Swiss striker Albian Ajeti scored on his debut for the club having recently signed from West Ham.
“He's not match-fit, he's not had a lot of football in the last 12 months. But he did great to keep the ball alive for the goal and his link-up play was good as well. It's brilliant for him,” remarked manager Neil Lennon.
Elsewhere Aberdeen and Hamilton both secured their first three points of the season with narrow victories over Livingston and Motherwell respectively.
