First Division Preview: Longford Town -v- Cabinteely

LONGFORD TOWN

Longford will be looking to go level on points with league leaders Cabinteely when the two sides meet at Bishop’s Gate this Monday. (KO 7:45PM).

A win for Daire Doyle’s side would put them level on points with the South Dublin club at the summit of the First Division.

Longford come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win away to Galway United on Friday.

An Aaron McCabe goal eight minutes from time helped the Town to their fourth win of the 2020 season.

Dean Byrne and Thomas McLaughlin are expected to miss the game through injury.

CABINTEELY

Pat Devlin’s Cabinteely will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2020 season when they travel to Bishopsgate on Monday.

Cabo have recorded victories over Bray, Cobh, Shamrock Rovers II, Galway and Athlone, while Devlin’s side also managed a 0-0 draw with Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park earlier this month.

The game will see Cabo and Longford play their second game out of three in seven days, but Devlin refuses to use it as an excuse.

“It’s non-stop. We just must get on with it. Everybody is in the same boat,” Devlin told Cabo’s media team.

The club are thought to be struggling with various injuries but will welcome new signings Jack Connolly and Steven Kinsella into the squad for the first time.

Longford and Cabo have the most secure back lines in the First Division. The Middlanders have conceded two goals while the Dublin side have conceded three.

Longford’s last home win over Cabo came in a 1-0 win in September of 2018. Since then, Town have hosted Pat Devlin’s men three times, including two legs of the 2019 play-off quarter finals.

Cabo have conceded just one league goal away from Stradbrook this season, Ronan Manning’s strike in Athlone’s 3-1 defeat to Cabo.
