Further cancellations in Scottish football after quarantine breach

Two upcoming Celtic games have been postponed after it was revealed defender Boli Bolingoli had breached coronavirus quarantine rules.

Bolingoli had travelled to Spain before appearing in the clubs’ draw away to Kilmarnock.

The Belgian failed to adhere to quarantine guidelines as set out by the Scottish Government.

A statement from Celtic read: “Celtic Football Club unreservedly condemns and apologises for the behaviour of the player Boli Bolingoli in travelling to Spain without informing the club and in failing to observe quarantine restrictions.

“It is difficult to imagine a more irresponsible action in current circumstances and we find it beyond explanation. The club will take immediate action through our own disciplinary procedures.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon remarked “as a minimum, you should not expect to see Aberdeen or Celtic play over the course of the coming week.”

The breach by Bolingoli follows the news that eight Aberdeen players had visited a pub following their defeat to Rangers on 1st of August.

This lead to the postponement of their game away to St. Johnstone last weekend. However it now appears Dons fans will have to wait much longer to see their side in action.

A statement from the SFA & SPFL joint response group noted the cancellations were “deeply regrettable” but also “unavoidable and uncontestable”.

Celtic were due to face St. Mirren away on Wednesday 12th of August while Aberdeen were scheduled to welcome Hamilton to Pittodrie on the same date.

Aberdeen were also due to travel to Parkhead for a clash against the defending champions on Sunday.
