Cabinteely underage duo Jamie Egan and Leigh Whelan make cross-channel moves to England
First Division Cabinteely have confirmed that under-19 duo Jamie Egan and Leigh Whelan have both left the club to make cross channel moves to England.
Egan – who has previously represented Wales at underage level – joins Bristol Rovers, while Leigh Whelan links up with Chesterfield.
17-year-old central defender Egan is a former St Kevin’s Boys schoolboy and has also played for Bohemians and Bray Wanderers in the National League set-up.
He told his club’s media team this afternoon: “I’m delighted about it and I’ve known about it for a while now and I can’t wait to get going over there.
“I’ve really enjoyed my year at Cabinteely,” he added. “I feel like I have come on a lot and I would like to thank Julian and Izzy (Connolly) with the 17’s and Pat, Eddie, Graham and Heffo with the first-team.
“They’ve all been brilliant to me and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
Also departing the club for pastures new is fellow centre-back Leigh Whelan who joins Chesterfield.
Whelan joined Cabinteely’s under-19s side ahead of the start of the 2019 campaign from Shelbourne.
