League Preview: Wexford -v- Cabinteely

WEXFORD

Wexford will be looking to build on last week’s 3-1 win away at Athlone Town when they welcome league leaders Cabinteely to Ferrycarrig Park this Friday night (The game will be streamed live here from 7:45pm).

Brian O’Sullivan’s side returned from lockdown with a bang as a brace from Kaleem Simon and a goal from the returning Jack Doherty gave Wexford their first win of the 2020 season.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s match, O’Sullivan revealed that his side are full of confidence ahead of the visit of Pat Devlin’s side.

"We are going into this game on the back of a great result on the road which will give us a lot of confidence. Anytime you pick points up on the road is a good night in this league," O’Sullivan told wexfordfc.ie.

Despite the optimism in the Wexford camp, O’Sullivan insists that his squad are fully aware of the threats that Cabo pose.

"Cabo will be well set up and going to be very dangerous on set pieces tonight so it is important to not give silly free kicks away in our own half as they are a big physical side. They also can counter attack really well and have some really good players going forward who are going to give us trouble tonight so we will have to defend properly and not leave ourselves open to the counter."

In team news, O’Sullivan will be without Colum Feeney, Liam Berry, Conor English and Malike Hill-Benrouguibi who are all struggling with injuries.

CABINTEELY

Cabo will be looking to continue their perfect start to the 2020 season when they travel to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday.

Pat Devlin’s side have won four league games from four so far this terms, beating­­ the likes of Bray, Shamrock Rovers II, Galway and Athlone Town.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s trip to Wexford, Cabo Assistant Manager Eddie Gormley revealed that while they were delighted with their latest win, a 2-0 win away at Galway, their focus is now firmly on Wexford.

“We were happy with the result in Galway. It was a team effort. But our focus is now on Wexford,” Gormley told loi.cabinteelyfc.ie.

The former St Pat’s midfielder also acknowledged the threat that the home side will pose to the Dublin side on Friday night.

“Wexford have strengthened in the recent period. We know it is going to be a really tough game. We can only do our best and see where that takes us.”

Pat Devlin will have Daniel Blackbyrne available after suspension while forward Rob Dunne is also available following his recent arrival at Stradbrook.
