First Waterford player tests negative for COVID-19
Waterford FC today confirmed that the first player tested for COVID-19 has received a negative result.
In a statement released on the club’s social media channels this afternoon, the club confirmed the negative result and stated that the unnamed player will remain in isolation until he is well enough to return to training.
The news comes today after the resignation of club doctor Sineád Fitzpatrick, who left her position following the announcement that a second Waterford FC player presented with flu-like symptoms on Tuesday morning. Dr. Fitzpatrick has been involved with the Blues’ medical team for five years.
The club confirmed that the second player is still awaiting the results of his test and will continue to follow HSE and FAI protocol in conjunction with Waterford FC’s COVID-19 team. Both players travelled, but did not play, in Waterford’s victory over Shelbourne on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues’ away trip to Sligo on Tuesday evening was postponed while the club awaits test results. Cork City are due to travel to the RSC on Saturday for an afternoon kick off but there is no news of whether or not the game will go ahead as of yet.
