Jack Byrne named SSE Airtricity League Player of the Year
The Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne has been announced as the SSE Airtricity League Player of the Year for 2019.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the Awards ceremony was originally postponed from earlier this year with the FAI announcing the winners this week.
The FAI noted that Byrne won the Award “following a stand-out season where he claimed Extra.ie FAI Cup glory and earned his first Republic of Ireland senior cap.”
Byrne scored eight league goals for the Hoops last season and his sparkling form for the Hoops earned him an international debut for the Boys in Green against Bulgaria in the Aviva Stadium.
The 24-year-old midfielder has scored four goals in the league, along with three assists, so far this season from the six games he has played.
This was one to savour. Jack Byrne bent home a brilliant free-kick to put Shamrock Rovers ahead against Finn Harps in Tallaght this evening. Top class. #RTEsoccer#greatestleagueintheworld#watchloi
