Finn Harps snap up Stephen Folan ahead of season restart
Finn Harps have completed the signing of experienced defender Stephen Folan until the end of the 2020 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season.
Folan has represented several SSE Airtricity League sides in the last seven years.
The centre back made his debut for Limerick at the beginning of the 2013 season when he returned to Ireland after leaving Newcastle United.
He joined Sligo Rovers in 2015 before moving on to Cork City just halfway through that campaign.
The Galwegian spent the remainder of 2015 with City before signing for hometown club Galway United at the beginning of 2016.
He would stay with The Tribesmen until the end of 2017 when he departed United to join Dundalk.
At the end of his time with the Lilywhites he emigrated to Australia where he represented South Melbourne.
Folan spoke to the club’s media team about his excitement at the challenge that faces him, and Harps.
"I am delighted to join the club and am looking forward to the battle ahead. I can't wait to get going and hopefully making a contribution to a successful campaign."
Harps boss Ollie Horgan also admitted his delight at getting the deal over the line, insisting that Folan could be key in what Horgan describes as a ‘massive’ battle ahead.
“We are very happy to have Stephen with us for the rest of the season. We have a massive battle on our hands and Stephen brings a lot of experience in the league.
“There's a bit of a sprint onto the finish now and we'll need all the bodies we can gather to be able to compete."
Finn Harps return to Premier Division action on Saturday night when they travel to Tallaght Stadium to take on league leaders Shamrock Rovers (kick-off 5pm).
