Baker ruled out for the season
Shelbourne’s hopes of winning the First Division title took a major dent this week when it was confirmed that Richie Baker picked up a serious injury.
The former Drogheda United man has been quite superb since re-joining Shels for a second spell and has chipped in with four goals this season.
It has been revealed that Baker tweaked a hamstring in the victory over Monaghan United and is now expected to be out of action for some time.
While it has been suggested that the diminutive midfielder needs at least six weeks rest, there is a slight chance that he could return for the final game of the season against Kildare County.
The Reds will keep a close watch on the injury as having Baker available in any capacity would be a big boost as the club aim to clinch promotion back to the Premier Division.
With Kevin Doherty and David Cassidy already on the injured list, manager Dermot Keely will be hoping that the rest of his squad can avoid picking up any fresh knocks in the coming games.
