Saints players eager to repay Kenna
It has been a difficult first year for Jeff Kenna in charge of St Patrick’s Athletic and the players are hoping they can make things easier for their manager by turning their poor form around.
The Super Saints have only won seven games at home all season and inconsistency has been a much-used term this season at Richmond Park. So it is no wonder that discontent has been rife in Inchicore of late.
However, midfielder Alan Cawley believes that the St Pat’s players can change that mood and ease the pressure on manager Kenna by climbing up the table.
“It has been a frustrating year in the league for us and everyone is aware of that. We want to address it and to stamp out the things that have been hurting us in games,” said Cawley.
“We really owe Jeff a win. He has been brilliant since he has come in and he deserves more from the players. It is up to us now to produce on the pitch.
“We have had numerous meetings to tackle all of the different issues, but it really comes down to performing in the games and showing that we can play as a team.
“Nobody likes losing. We know the fans are frustrated, but so are we. They deserve to see better performances from us, so hopefully we can deliver that in the games to come.”
Having been dumped out of the FAI Ford Cup by Waterford United, St Pat’s need to start collecting points in the league if they are to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap.
