Derry midfielder Jack Malone pens new deal to keep him at the club until the end of 2022
Jack Malone has signed a new two year contract with Derry City, in a deal which will keep him at the Ryan McBride Stadium until the end of the 2022 season.
The 20 year old has progressed well in recent years rising up through the ranks of the underage sides at the Candystripes before making a breakthrough to the first team and manager Declan Devine believes the hard work he has shown deserves this new contract.
“I think people took notice of Jack after scoring a stunning goal against Sligo last year and he worked really hard to keep his place throughout.”
“He then had an injury that kept him out for a couple of months but he is back and raring to go.”
“We have excellent options in midfield at the minute and it says a lot about Jack’s progress that he is right in the mix for us.”
Meanwhile Malone himself was delighted to have signed a new deal which will give him some security for the next two and a half years.
“Declan, Kevin, Paddy and Marty have been brilliant with me since I came into the senior squad and that trust gives you real belief as a player,” said the midfielder.
‘I had just started to be a regular in the side last year before I broke my foot but I’m fully fit now and ready to go.”
“We have seven quality midfielders in the squad now- any of them worthy of a place tomorrow night- so competition will be fierce. That will help us all to be on top of our game so it’s not a bad thing.”
‘We really can’t wait to get going tomorrow.”
