Longford ace hoping for upturn in form
Brian McCarthy has been one of the stand-out performers for Longford Town this season, but the defender knows that his team have yet to fulfil their potential.
Having joined the club on loan from Bohemians, the athletic centre-back has commanded a place in the heart of a defence that has shipped 46 goals so far this year.
He knows that improvements need to be made if they are to start climbing up the First Division table and steering away from the drop zone.
The recent arrival of Gareth Cronin in the managerial hot seat is a timely boost for the club, although McCarthy knows that it is up to the players to get themselves out of the mess that they created.
“It has been disappointing,” McCarthy bluntly stated.
“We have players who have played in the Premier Division and could play in the Premier and we’ve good young players, but we’ve only had a couple of wins.
“We just need to pick ourselves up.”
With just five wins from 24 games in the league, Longford know that a run of positive results is needed to safeguard their future in the second tier of League of Ireland for another season at least.
