2019/20 Leinster Senior Cup abandoned due to Covid-19
The Leinster Football Association have confirmed that the Leinster Senior Cup for 2019/20 has been cancelled due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding Covid-19.
All teams who have progressed through the preliminary and early rounds will be accommodated in the 2021/21 edition, the make-up of which has yet to be confirmed.
The competition pits the 12 Leinster-based League of Ireland sides against the top sides in Leinster's amateur leagues, including the Leinster Senior League, AUL and Combined Counties Football League.
There had been hopes that the competition, which had progressed past the second round stage, could still be staged as it frequently continues beyond the end of the regular season in May.
The 2018/19 Leinster Senior Cup final saw St Patrick’s Athletic run out 4-0 winners over Athlone Town on November 16th 2019 – 14 months after the competition began the previous September.
However, with several leagues having ended prematurely, and the Leinster Senior League having only returned to action on Saturday, the decision has been made to start afresh next season.
