Avondale United appoint Frank Kelleher as Head Coach
Cork side Avondale United have announced the appointment of Frank Kelleher as their new head coach for the upcoming season.
Kelleher, who played for Cork City in the 80s and was part of their coaching staff alongside John Cotter as recently as 2019, will bring a wealth of experience to the Munster Senior League outfit’.
The Uefa Pro Licence holder led the Cork City FC women’s team to FAI Cup glory in 2017 and has also worked at Cobh Ramblers as an Academy Manager.
He arrives at an Avondale United side who were third in the Premier Division before the league was made null and void due to COVID-19.
The previous season started well for Avondale, who won the Tom Hand Cup against FAI Junior Cup winners St. Michaels AFC. They also progressed to the first round proper of the FAI Cup, where they were beaten 2-1 by Drogheda United at United Park. The club had mixed results domestically as they were knocked out of the Intermediate Cup early by College Corinthians and they were beaten 3-0 by Rockmount in the quarter finals of the Munster Senior Cup.
His first game in charge of Avondale will be on the 18th of July against Cobh Ramblers at Avondale Park with a 12:00 pm kick off.
Following the appointment, Avondale announced on twitter “Senior team players really looking forward to pre-season training on Monday night under the clubs newly appointed Head Coach Frank Kelleher.”
