Veteran defender Albert Watson signs contract extension with Larne
Defender Albert Watson has signed an extension to his contract at Larne to ensure he remains at the club for the coming season.
Having arrived in June of 2019, Watson has brought with him a long and storied career in the game in which he has enjoyed two spells with Ballymena as well as spending time in the NASL with FC Edmonton and also in Iceland with KR Reykjavik.
With the NIFL season having been curtailed due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, Watson is delighted to be able to continue his time at Inver Park.
“Last year we did so well, barring a few results and I felt we would have kicked on if those last seven games could have been played.
“I want to win something and achieve something with Larne and I know we are very close. Maybe a couple of more pieces of the jigsaw will see us right up there.
“You want to be playing every week and that’s up to me to make sure I do extra bits and pieces to keep myself in tiptop condition, which I have always done throughout my career.
“Once we get the chance to train again we will be back working hard together and hopefully we get a date when the new season will begin soon, because we’re all massively looking forward to it.”
Manager Tiarnan Lynch was in cheerful mood having only just also completed the signing of Josh Robinson in recent days.
“Albert showed all of his experience and leadership skills last season and was a big part of the spine of our team,” he said.
“We are delighted to keep him at Inver Park and feel he will be a big part of what we hoping to do over the next year.”
