Paisley thinks Sporting have found right gear
Stephen Paisley reckons Sporting Fingal have finally started to play as the devastating force that they threatened to become at the start of the season.
After a fine season last year, manager Liam Buckley decided to freshen up his squad by bringing in players that had experience of winning key games in the League of Ireland.
He swooped for the likes of Shaun Maher, Alan Kirby, Eammon Zayed, Gary O’Neill, and Paisley – all of whom had been with Premier Division clubs last term.
However it took some time for all of the new players to fit into a system that worked with injuries restricting the playing time of some and inconsistency on the pitch also contributing to their shaky start.
Now things appear to be moving with the kind of flow expected from Sporting and Paisley thinks that bit of form arrives at a crucial time of the season as the First Division title race is heating up.
“I think over the last couple of games we have started to click,” said Paisley.
“There was a couple of injuries with Shaun Maher, Gary O’Neill, and myself being long-term absentees this year.
“Fortunately, in the last two or three weeks we’ve had a settled team and some of the results we’ve got demonstrate how strong our squad is this year.
“It’s very tight at the top even though Shels are five points clear. But they’ll probably have to slip up for the rest of us to catch them.
“We have to play them once more and that would open the race wide open if we get a result there. Any one of the top teams could win the title and it’s going to come down to the last game.”
