Northern Ireland U21 international Ben Kennedy released by Stevenage
Stevenage have announced that Northern Ireland Under 21 international Ben Kennedy has been released.
The Lisburn man's Boro career comes to an end after 167 appearances across six seasons
He joined Stevenage on a two-year youth scholarship in the summer of 2013 and broke into the first-team during the 2014–15 season.
He also spent sometime away from the club as he went to Newport County on loan in 2019.
The forward who can also play in midfield made 18 appearances and claimed two assists for Alex Revell's side in 2019/20 as they were bottom of the League Two table when the season was ended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Kennedy who was a fans favourite at the Lamex Stadium penned a farewell message on his twitter saying "Signed as a 15-year-old boy, leaving as 23-year-old man. It’s been a rollercoaster of a seven years and I would like to thank everyone at the club, the staff, players and most importantly the fans for all the memories.
“I pray the club get to stay up but on to a new chapter.”
Stevenage are yet to know for sure which division they will be playing in next season.
At the moment they are set for relegation to the National League but are waiting for news of a further FA charge brought against Macclesfield Town and another potential points deduction.
