Life on Leeside- Greg O'Halloran column
I enjoyed our 4-2 win against Galway United at home last week. Some of our play was excellent; a lot of people don’t give this league credit for the football we play but it was great quality last Friday.
I’ve been playing at right back recently but to be honest, I don’t care what position I play once I’m involved. Also, I’m much fitter than I was in the past three or four years and to be honest I think it’s down to the excellent training from Paul (Doolin).
Hopefully, the recent pay agreement is the end of our troubles off-the-field and we can get this club moving forward and get it back to the days like 2005. I firmly believe there is no better place to play in the country than a packed Turner’s Cross. We just hope that Tom (Coughlan) honours his part of the deal, because we’ll certainly honour ours.
I’m now coaching Crosshaven FC in the Munster Senior League. I played with them growing up and they’ve always been very good to me. It’s our first time up at Senior Level for a couple of years and we’ve started well and I really enjoy it as a pastime.
I never really looked at coaching until the past two or three years but what I’ve always done is as soon as I get home write down what we’ve done in training session and now I’m trying to introduce things to the Crosshaven players.
I’m 29 since last Sunday so it’s not something I’ll be looking to move into properly any time soon. I’ve hopefully got another three or four years left in me and want to win a couple of trophies with Cork City.
We still have some big games coming up before the end of the season, with Derry and Bohs to play at home and with any luck we’ll get a big crowd as there is still a lot to play for.
The race for the title looks like it’ll be very exciting with Rovers so close to Bohemians and to give them credit, they’ve been excellent in building-up a squad the past three or four years. However, Cork City should be the ones up there and not Shamrock Rovers.
At the moment, a European spot is the target and anything above that will be excellent. I know we keep going on about it, but we’ve lost a lot of big players. With the players we’ve still got, to see that football last Friday night was excellent. And to be honest, I don’t think you’d see that quality in League 1 and League 2 across the water.
