Extratime.ie Sportscast - Hoop Nightmares - Why didn't it happen for Stephen Kenny in 2012
We are aiming to bring you some extra bonus Friday podcasts and our first two are companion pieces looking back at a couple of contrasting season's for Stephen Kenny in the League of Ireland.
Next week we will look at Longford Town’s debut season in Europe but this week’s show looks at the season that certainly is an outlier in Kenny’s career.
Declan Marron, Macdara Ferris and Andrew Dempsey look back over Stephen Kenny's failed tenure at Shamrock Rovers in 2012.
That season Kenny took over the back-to-back League of Ireland champions and Europa League Group stage qualifiers, with the Hoops paying Derry City a fee to prise the Tallaght native to come and take over the club from the departing Michael O’Neill.
Four wins and a draw from the first five games had the Hoops top of the table again before things started to go astray.
The lads revisit the key reasons and games where it all went wrong, try to apportion blame and discuss the impact starting goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse against Sligo Rovers had on the rest of Stephen's career.
You can listen to the show here or download it from wherever you get your podcasts.
