Duffy believes in Drogs survival

Drogheda United have had more than a few disappointments this season, but Jamie Duffy has stated that they are refusing to give up in the fight for Premier Division survival.

Despite sitting second from bottom in the table, confidence is high amongst the players and Duffy maintains that there is a lot more to come from the team as they look to climb out of the drop zone.

Duffy, who has emerged as a key player this season, thinks that the Boynesiders have recently started to click as a unit and that should result in them winning more games.

While he acknowledges that it will be tough to drag themselves away from the bottom, he remains upbeat about the challenge that lies ahead for Drogheda.

“We had to put a squad together very quickly before the season started and it took us some time to get going, but when that first win (against Bray) came it was like a monkey off our backs,” explained Duffy.

“It is a tight league this year with only ten teams and any team can slip down the table if they lose a few games in a row. And it can work the other way too, if you put a few wins together then you are suddenly up in the European places.

“There is still a lot of football to be played and we certainly won’t be giving up.

“This team is getting better all of the time and we all want to be playing in the Premier Division next year.”

With the likes of Ross Gaynor, Eric McGill, Scott Gibb, and Guy Bates arriving at the club recently, Duffy thinks that Alan Mathews’ side could surprise a few people in the run-in to the season.
