Fenlon heaps praise on Keegan
Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon thinks that Paul Keegan has turned out to be one of the signings of the season.
The midfielder arrived at Dalymount Park at the beginning of the year having spent a few years with Drogheda United, where he proved himself to be a dependable player.
Bohs were on the look-out for a new anchor man in the middle due to the retirement of Kevin Hunt and the release of Stephen O’Donnell, so Fenlon moved quickly to snap up Keegan.
Having started his career with Leeds United, the Dubliner moved back to the League of Ireland in 2005 and has since emerged as one of the best central midfielders in the league.
“I think he (Paul Keegan) has been fabulous. He has been a great signing for us,” said Fenlon.
“He is a quality player. People talk about some of the other lads we have, but he very rarely gives the ball away, his passing is very clever, he keeps the game going, and defensively he is very astute as well.
“I think people at the start looked at Steven (O’Donnell) going and the partnership he had last year with Gary (Deegan), but I think Paul has come in and taken it on a level again.”
Even with the likes of Gary Deegan, Glenn Cronin, and Joseph Ndo at the club, Keegan has consistently produced in the big games for The Gypsies.
Fenlon has shown a lot of faith in him and regularly hands him the captain’s armband when Owen Heary is missing, and reckons the 25-year-old can still improve as a player.
