Cork City sign Becky Cassin ahead of 2020 Women's National League campaign
Becky Cassin, One of Wexford Youths longest serving members has joined Cork City’s Só Hotels Women’s National League squad.
Cassin had been a core player for the Youths for six very successful seasons in which Cassin picked up four league winner medals as well as three winning FAI cup campaigns.
Rónán Collins, the Cork manager feels as if Cassin will have a very positive impact on the squad and will fit right in with her experience as he explained; “She has achieved so much in the WNL already and her experience will be of great benefit to the squad.
“She can get on the ball and play, but also works really hard and wins it back, having that hunger matched with quality is a real asset.”
“From talking to Becky she could really see the project we are developing at City and we’re delighted she decided to be part of it.
“She has always struck us as someone in the league that will fit exactly into what we are building because of her attributes as a player and as a person and it’s great that is now a reality,” he continued
The young midfielder had recently graduated from Carlow IT with a degree, during which the course of she spent time on work experience with her new club; “I enjoyed every second I spent in Wexford and everyone at the club knows exactly how much they and the club mean to me, so I’ll always be thankful for the time I got to spend there.
“This definitely wasn’t an easy decision to make and I was always appreciate everything that Wexford Youths have done for me.
“I’d be lying if I said my time working at Cork City didn’t help me make this move. I spent four or five days a week with the men’s team for eight months and learned what the club is like from the inside out, so I think that definitely helped in my decision.
“Everyone from the academies right through to the men’s and women’s team are committed and want to be successful every year so yeah that definitely attracted me back to the club.”
