Wexford FC sign Janabi Amour Jr
Wexford Town’s preparation for the 2020 season had another boost with the announcement that 23-year-old winger Janabi Amour Jr has signed for the club for the upcoming season.
This is a further strengthening of their squad with the club already signing Patrick O’Sullivan, Malike Hill Benrougguibi and Karl Fitzsimons for the 2020 campaign.
Janabi has played for two seasons in the League of Ireland with Drogheda United after previously playing in England for Brentford FC and non-League side Bedworth United.
His decision to join the Youths came after the player spoke with the clubs first team coach Brian O’Sullivan as Janabi explained when he spoke to the club’s media team.
"I was impressed after speaking with Brian (O'Sullivan) and was interested in signing so I came down to the training sessions and it's a really good group of players. I played with Cian Kavanagh at Drogheda obviously but at schoolboy level I played against Malike (Benrouguibi), Dan (Tobin) and Azeez (Yusuff) as well so it's a good mix here. I played in the friendly game at the weekend (vs Shelbourne FC) and it went well so I was delighted to sign."
The game against Shelbourne was the clubs first Pre-season friendly and Janabi saw enough in that performance to give him encouragement that this season with Wexford will be a successful one.
"I thought we caused them problems. We played really well against a very good Shelbourne team that got promoted, especially considering we have a new team with a lot of new players. As a squad we've been together two or three weeks now but a lot of us have played in the same teams in the past.
“You can already see that we're gelling and it's only going to improve as pre-season goes on. Come the first game against UCD we'll be ready and then hopefully we can go on and do well, maybe scrape into the play offs. We saw with Cabinteely last year, no one really pictured them been in the play offs, so why can't we make it? Personally, I think it could be a special season for us.”
The club have another two Pre-season friendlies confirmed against Waterford FC on the 18th of January and Bohemians on the 1st of February as their league campaign opener against UCD looms ever closer on the 21st of February.
