Rovers add Barrett to their ranks
Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the signing of former Republic of Ireland striker Graham Barrett, subject to international clearance.
The Hoops have been quite busy during the July transfer window with manager Michael O’Neill bringing in five new faces before sealing a deal for Barrett.
The 27-year-old striker, who hails from Tallaght, started his career off with Arsenal before sealing a move to Coventry City, where he stayed for three years.
He enjoyed a number of loan spells with various clubs before opting to link up with Falkirk in Scotland. After three years with The Bairns, he joined St Johnstone on a short-term deal and became a free agent this summer.
Dubliner Barrett is from Tallaght, and sees his arrival at Rovers as a very positive step in his career. “It’s an exciting time at the club and I hope to play my part,” he says.
“There’s something special about Shamrock Rovers playing at Tallaght Stadium. It’s great for the area and as a local I can’t wait to wear the green and white Hoops.”
While he will have to wait for international clearance to come through before making his debut with Rovers, Barrett should prove to be a shrewd capture by the Dublin club.
Having won 7 caps and scoring two goals for Ireland, the powerful frontman will bring experience to the Hoops squad and compete for a place up front with Gary Twigg, Dessie Baker, Padraig Amond, Tadhg Purcell, and Don Cowan.
Barrett becomes the sixth signing of the transfer window for Rovers following the recent arrivals at the Tallaght Stadium of Alan Mannus, Pat Sullivan, Ross Chisholm, Barry Johnston, and Paddy Kavanagh.
