UCD will be looking to put more pressure on Shelbourne at the top of the First Division when the Dublin side welcomes a Limerick FC team struggling to find form to the UCD Bowl on Friday night.

The Students continued their superb away record this season after a 1-0 win in Waterford last weekend. That victory moves them to within five points of the top spot. David McMillan’s 70th minute strike in the Deise county was enough to ensure a leap frog over United and put Martin Russell’s men into second place.

Limerick travel to Dublin after a 4-1 drubbing they suffered at the hands of Longford Town last Friday. An 87th minute goal from Conor Molan was mere consolation after a one sided game was played out at Jackman Park. That’s Limerick’s second 4-1 loss at home in three weeks after going down by the same score-line against Sporting Fingal on the 31st of July.

Pat Scully is eager for his troops to push on and make amends after dropping out of contention in the league, “We have to improve. We are too weak and too soft when things go against us. We have some young players, but young players can do a bit more fighting.”

Scully also blames some second rate finishing from the Shannon-siders as one of the main reason’s his side have struggled of late, “We have done it now on a few occasions, but it goes back to the same thing, the amount of chances we have had, compared to the number Longford had. We probably had double the number of chances, but we did not force their goalkeeper into making a save.”

To get anything from the game on Friday night will be a tough ask for Limerick against a UCD outfit clearly relishing the battle for promotion.

Despite all this, Scully’s outfit did bounce back after the 4-1 loss to Sporting with a spirited away victory against Finn Harps a fortnight ago. This kind of unpredictable form could well make for an interesting tie at the Bowl.
