Gary Shaw returns to the Seagulls

Former Bray Wanderers player Gary Shaw is returning to the Seagulls. The 27-year-old player, who began his League of Ireland career at the Carlisle Grounds, had a disappointing season with St. Patrick’s Athletic and is making the move to Bray for next year.

After initially playing with Bray, Shaw made the move to Longford Town where he worked with current Bray boss Gary Cronin, winning the First Division title in 2014 in a season when he scored 13 times.

He joined Shamrock Rovers in 2016, winning the club’s player of the year award in his second season with the Hoops scoring 11 league goals and finishing as Rovers’ top scorer.

The striker picked up a nasty arm injury in Rovers’ penultimate game that season breaking his humerus in a match in the Carlisle Grounds against his former club.

In 2018 he scored just two league goals for Rovers as he struggled to claim a regular place in Stephen Bradley’s starting XI. He made 25 league appearances but 14 of them were off the bench.

He was signed by Harry Kenny for the Saints for the start of the most recent league season. In the league Shaw scored just one league goal all season (against Derry City in April) from his 29 appearances.

The Saints struggled in front of goal throughout the campaign – they scored just 13 times at Richmond Park in the league all season – the lowest amount scored by any home team in the Premier Division.
