Monaghan United -v- Finn Harps
Monaghan United welcome Finn Harps to Kingspan Century Park on Sunday afternoon (at the earlier time of 3pm) as the home side look to take advantage of Wexford Youths drop in form and move into fifth place. Any kind of win will put the Mons ahead of Wexford on goal difference, whilst Finn Harps will be looking for all three points as they attempt to pull away from the bottom four.
Monaghan are currently enjoying a five game unbeaten run in all competitions and equally pleasing for Mick Cooke is the fact they have not conceded a goal since their four nil defeat to Sporting Fingal. Cooke has a full strength squad going into the game.
Finn Harps manager James Gallagher watched his side earn a 1-1 draw with Shelbourne last week in a game originally postponed due to an unplayable pitch and he was happy with the effort his players put in.
“We did well enough last weekend and got a bit of a lift from it. We were certainly good value for the point in the end and hope to show some of that against Monaghan. The boys tried very hard and you have to give them credit for that.”
Gallagher is hoping that a fast pace and the confidence gained from the Shels game will see his players push Monaghan all the way.
“Monaghan are a team that are getting better all the time. They're also experienced and have a good physical presence, but if we set a good tempo from the start, and test them when we can, we can bring the confidence on from last weekend.”
In Harps team news, Oisin McMenamin returns to the panel again, having missed last week’s 1-1 draw with Shelbourne. Ian Rossiter, Marc Brolly, Fintan Bonner and Paddy Bonner join long term absentees Conor Gethins and Johnny Havlin in the treatment room.
Extratime.ie Prediction: Monaghan to prove too strong for Harps. 2-1.
