Refwatch - Felix Brych to officiate crucial clash in Aviva
UEFA have assigned experienced referee Felix Brych to lead the match officials in Dublin for Monday's crucial EURO 2020 qualifier between the Republic of Ireland and Denmark.
The German referee has officiated at the last two World Cups and EURO 2016. He was also in charge for the 2017 Champions League final in Cardiff between Juventus and Real Madrid and the 2014 Sevilla-Benfica Europa League final.
The 44-year-old official has referred three Ireland games previously. A decade ago he took charge of the first leg of the World Cup playoff against France in Dublin.
He also officiated a couple of memorable draws for the Boys in Green.
He was in charge on the night Richard Dunne led the defensive line in Moscow in the scoreless euro qualifier in 2011.
Brych insisted that Dunne’s replacement jersey following a blood injury needed a number on it which resulted in Dunne wearing a jersey with a comical felt tip pen number for the last 15 minutes of the game.
He was the ref in the gloom of Zenica during Ireland’s 1-1 away draw against Bosnia in the EURO 2016 playoff who could see well enough in the fog to award Robbie Brady’s crucial away goal.
Earlier this year he officiated over the Al-Ahly clash against Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup clash in Alexandria.
