Shamrock Rovers confirm Aaron Bolger departure to Cardiff City
Aaron Bolger has left Shamrock Rovers on a permanent move to Championship side Cardiff City.
The midfielder had been on loan with the Welsh club since February and the 19-year-old player was part of their under-23 side.
Bolger joined the Rovers academy in 2016 from St. Joseph Boys making 16 under-age appearances before Stephen Bradley handed him his first team debut against Cork City in the FAI Cup in September 2016 as a 16-year-old.
Overall he made 36 competitive appearances for the Hoops – 24 in the league – and scored just once – in a 4-1 win over Drogheda United in 2017.
It is believed Bolger was under contract with Rovers into 2020.
Bolger had limited game time last year with the Hoops, when he was also completing his Leaving Cert exams as part of Rovers’ Academy Education programme with Ashfield College. He made eight starts in the league and another six appearances off the bench.
He thanked the club with a post on Instagram “Thank you @shamrockroversofficial for the past 3 years I spent at the club, I learned a lot during my time there and met some great people. A special thanks to the fans for the support.”
