Creaney joins Dundalk

Dundalk FC have announced the signing of Scottish left-back James Creaney. The former Kilmarnock, Ayr United and Stranraer defender becomes Sean Connor’s seventh new signing since the opening of the transfer window last month, and shortly after his arrival was confirmed, the 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Monday night’s friendly defeat by Club Atlético de Madrid.
“I’m delighted to sign,” Creaney told dundalkfc.com moments after the game. “I’m just looking forward to concentrating on my football now. It’s brilliant. I have been here three or four months. I came over but my clearance couldn’t come through until July, but it’s all sorted now, so I’m happy. There’s a very good setup here, training is brilliant, and Joe (Miller) and the Gaffer are really good as well. Everything is good, so I’m really enjoying it so far.
“It was my agent who got me over here,” James explained when asked how the move to Ireland came about. “He’s the Gaffer’s agent as well. I played 35-odd games for Stranraer last season but I thought I’d come over here when the opportunity came up. It’s full-time football, so I couldn’t turn it down. Tonight was my first 90 minutes of football in a good while, they knocked the ball about well, but it was a good shift and it was good to get a full game under my belt. It was hard moving over here at the start, but I’ve settled in now. It feels right like home now too, I think there’s six Scots here now, so I’m really enjoying it.”
