WNT Player Sophie Perry to leave Brigton

Republic of Ireland WNT defender Sophie Perry will leave Brighton and Hove Albion when her contract expires this summer.

Sophie spent the second half of last season out on loan and is seeking a new club as she has not been offered a new deal by the Women’s Super League side.

The 32-year-old was a pivotal part of the Seagulls squad that won promotion to what is now the Women’s Championship in 2015, in what was her third spell at Brighton (including one loan term), having spent seven seasons with Chelsea.

Perry rejoined Brighton in 2017 after a short spell with Reading. She made 13 appearances and scored one goal in all competitions with Brighton in the early part of the 2018/19 season, the club’s first in the FA Women’s Super League, before accepting a loan switch to Lewes in January.

Born in Brighton, Sophie Perry represented England up to under 23-level before being called-up for Ireland in 2012. She has since been capped for Ireland on 30 occasions.

 

 

Brighton’s first-team manager Hope Powell said: “It’s always difficult to make these decisions but it is the reality of how far the club has come in recent years.”

Brighton consolidated their Women’s Super League status with a ninth place finish in the 2018/19 table.
