Keeva Keenan named Celtic POTY

Former Shelbourne and Raheny United defender, Keeva Keenan has been named as Celtic’s best player for the 2018/19 season.

The Dubliner, who only turned 21 last summer, has shone for the Hoops since making a cross city switch from Glasgow FC in 2018.

Growing up following the club, along with the added attraction of linking up with Irish international Ruesha Littlejohn, Keenan didn’t think twice about joining the Scottish side.

"As a Celtic supporter, I’m thrilled to be joining the club and playing alongside Ruesha Littlejohn as well as the other great players in the squad.  I was looking for a change for the new season and am delighted to have signed for Celtic."

While at her former team, Keenan was a key figure as they wrapped up an 11th league title in a row.

This season has seen Celtic keep the pace with their rivals, amassing 5 wins from their first 8 games in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Having ten international caps to her name, Republic of Ireland senior manager, Colin Bell, last called up Keenan in 2017 rewarding her for excellent displays with the u-17 and u-19 sides.

When asked about the differences between the Irish and Scottish game, the defender stated

"The standards in Scotland and Ireland are similar, but I’ve found the games to be more competitive here.

And on her award winning season, Keenan was quick to acknowledge the club and her teammates on Twitter saying:

“So grateful to receive POTY from this amazing club. Appreciate my team so much.”
