Shelbourne midfielder Alex Kavanagh named So Hotels WNL Player of the Month for March
Shelbourne star Alex Kavanagh has been named Só Hotels Women's National League Player of the Month for March.
Dave Bell's side are early contenders for the title this season and Kavanagh has emerged as a key player for Shelbourne in the early stages of the 2019 season.
Kavanagh, who hails from Finglas and is just 19 years of age, commented on how this award was another sign that her hard work in training is paying off.
"It means a lot to me, even more so because last season I didn’t play as much as I wanted to, so in pre-season I had to work a lot harder to get into the team,” she told the league’s website.
Bell, who previously led the Ireland under-17s to the European Championship in 2017, took the reins at Shelbourne this season and Kavanagh is complementary of the difference he has made to the team.
"I think Dave coming in, I think he’s that kind of manager, he likes to play football, not just hit it long.
“So, in training, he works on that a lot. I think we can still do a lot more, we can work a lot more, we know as a team, we want to improve and keep improving.”
Even though Kavanagh has already scored five goals this season from midfield she is keen to acknowledge the contribution of her team-mates.
"A big part of it, I think, is the goals, but I don’t think I would be able to score the goals without the girls," stated Kavanagh.
Kavanagh was presented with her Só Hotels WNL Player of the Month Award by Rachel Lea Stuart, Hotels Business Development Executive at Só Hotels.
