Former Harps defender Damien McNulty joins Ards on loan after finding gametime limited at Cliftonville

Former Finn Harps defender Damien McNulty has joined Ards on loan from fellow NILF Premiership side Cliftonville until the end of the season.

The versatile defender moves to the Antrim side on deadline day having made made just seven appearances at Solitude this season.

McNulty joined the Reds from Carrick Rangers of County Down, having previously played for Limavady United, Coleraine, and League of Ireland side Finn Harps.

The 27-year-old joined the Donegal outfit before the start of the 2013 season from Coleraine, after having made ten appearances for the Derry club.

He made his debut in the League of Ireland against Waterford United on the first day of the season in a 1-1 draw in the First Division.

McNulty would go on to make 15 league appearances for then manager Peter Hutton’s Ballybofey side that season.

He was an important player throughout his time in Donegal, making 112 appearances for the Finn Park club, scoring five times.

He was an integral part of Harps’ promotion in 2015, playing all four play-off games against UCD and Limerick, having made 21 apparences that season.

The defender would again be a regular the following season, appearing 23 times as Harps retained their Premier Division status with a 10th place finish

McNulty spent five years at Finn Harps before moving on to Carrick Rangers in January of 2018.

The Derryman makes his loan move to Colin Nixon’s side until the end of the 2018/19 season.
