Shelbourne 1 - 0 Sporting Fingal
Shelbourne remain four points clear at the top of the First Division thanks to a one nil win over promotion rivals Sporting Fingal at Tolka Park. The result means that Fingal now trail Dermot Keely's side by a massive seven points - and have played a game more than their North Dublin rivals.
Richie Baker grabbed the game’s only goal at the beginning of the second half when his free kick from the right evaded everyone in the box and snuck in at the far post.
It could have been different for the visitors. As early as the third minute they were handed the chance to take the lead. Breaking quickly from a Shelbourne corner, midfielder Robert Bayly led the charge up field. The ball was slipped into the path of Conan Byrne and before he could get his feet right, keeper Dean Delaney brought him down.
Referee Phil Caschera pointed to the spot immediately. Byrne took the kick himself, but more or less went straight down the middle and gave Delaney the welcome opportunity to redeem himself with a straight forward save.
