Pats sign Declan O'Brien on loan
St Patrick’s Athletic have today confirmed that Dundalk striker Declan O’Brien has joined the Saints on loan until the end of the season. The former Drogheda United player is a proven goalscorer and has won several top honours in the game including Premier Division, FAI Cup and Setanta Cup winners’ medals.
O’Brien will join the Pat’s squad this week ahead of their Europa League match against Valletta of Malta on Thursday night. “With the current injuries in the squad we badly needed another option up front and Declan O’Brien with his ability to score goals gives us just that”, said Pat’s CEO “Richard Sadlier.
Speaking on the move 29-year old O’Brien said “I’m delighted with the chance to join St Pat’s and to work under Jeff Kenna. Pat’s have a very good squad of players but have been pretty unlucky with injuries. They’ve struggled a bit in front of goal this season and hopefully I can play a part in addressing that”.
Asked how he felt about the possibility of playing in the Europa League O’Brien said “my focus will be on playing well for Pat’s and if I get a chance to play in the Europa League well that would be an added bonus”.
St Patrick’s Athletic take on Valletta of Malta in the Europa League on Thursday 16th July and tickets are currently on sale from the club at normal League of Ireland prices.
